NEW YORK, NY (February 19, 2025) – Rev. Al Sharpton today announced the National Action Network (NAN) Annual Convention will be held this year from April 2nd to 5th in New York City, as the organization continues to stand at the vanguard of the fight to protect diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) amid relentless attacks from the Trump administration.

“The Trump administration and Congress can strip federal DEI budgets, they can bully corporations into backing out of their promises, but they cannot tell Black Americans how to spend their dollars,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN). “This year’s NAN Convention will focus on how we save DEI, which is the civil rights test of our era, and remind Corporate America of what these investments mean. My hope is that NAN members will leave this convention resolved that the top leaders will listen to us when we make a dent in their bottom line.”

At NAN’s MLK Day rally in Washington, D.C. last month, Rev. Sharpton addressed the state of DEI and NAN’s plans to identify, then boycott, two companies that have reneged on their DEI pledges. The civil right leader’s announcement ran simultaneous to the inauguration of Donald Trump just a few miles away. In the hours after Trump’s inaugural address, he kicked off an avalanche of executive orders to curb back on DEI programs, eliminate staff focused on the policies, and pressure private companies to do the same.

NAN has denounced these actions through demonstration, building off more than a year of weekly rallies outside billionaire and anti-DEI activist Bill Ackman’s office. NAN has also stood by companies such as Costco, which have stood by their DEI commitments. Rev. Sharpton has led NAN members to shop in Costcos in East Harlem and northern New Jersey to show Black America stands with the company. In the coming weeks, NAN Chapters around the country plan to stage similar “buy-cotts.”

This year’s NAN Convention will bring elected officials, business leaders, civil rights activists, attorneys, and other nationally recognized figures to discuss this fight. The full NAN Convention schedule will be released shortly.
