Damon Dash Accused Of Defying Court Orders In Josh Webber Lawsuit
Damon Dash was cited in a recent court case for defying court orders and a default judgment will be entered against the Harlem entrepreneur after the complainant files the necessary papers showing damages caused by Dash’s lack of actions.
According to AllHipHop, the Roc-A-Fella co-founder has been accused of violating various court orders related to an ongoing lawsuit with filmmaker Josh Webber. The court ruling came on Tuesday, Feb. 18, after Judge John F. Walter stated that Dash failed to follow basic courtroom procedures. That included Dash not filing key legal documents, dodging a mediation that was court-ordered, and just ignoring deadlines set for the Harlem-bred executive.
Based on the shortcomings of Dash’s actions, the judge entered a default judgment against him.
Judge Walter gave Webber and his legal team until March 3 to submit the proof of damages caused by the inactions of Dash regarding what was required of him by the judge. In the original lawsuit, Webber won a judgment of $805,000, which includes interest and attorney fees. That award will be higher depending on what the legal team comes back with.
This comes two months after another litigant, author Edwyna Brooks who won a judgment against Dash went back to court to state that he had not fulfilled his financial obligations to her for a lawsuit she won in 2020.
The New York Post reported that Dash has been hiding his money to avoid paying her what she is owed from a previous lawsuit. Brooks initially won a $300,000 copyright infringement case against Dash after she said that Dash marketed and sold a film project based on one of her characters, a female crime boss from a book series she wrote, “Mafietta.” He then countersued but eventually lost that case as well. She now claims with the non-payment of the judgment, Brooks claims Dash owes her close to $100,000 with interest.
Brooks’ attorney, Chris Brown, who is the same lawyer who is handling Webber’s case, alleges that Dash and his company, Poppington LLC, tried to hide his assets by moving them to a company not named in the suit.
