Mike Epps Reveals Next ‘Friday’ Sequel Coming

The comedian confirmed that the long-awaited next installment of the Ice Cube-helmed movie will see the light of day

Comedian Mike Epps recently revealed that a sequel to the cult classic movie, “Friday,” is gonna finally happen.

During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” Epps confirmed that the long-awaited next installment of the Ice Cube-helmed movie will see the light of day. Charlamagne Tha God asked the question that has lingered in the minds of fans of the franchise. He responded that he spoke to Cube and was told by the “Amerikka’s Most Wanted” rapper that the papers were signed.

He also credited the N.W.A. co-founder for helping the careers of several comedians, including himself, through the “Friday” movies.

“He called me the other day, said we just finished the deal,” Epps told the radio host. “So, we doing the last ‘Friday,’ man. And big shout-out to Cube; that’s another brother that has put so many brothers on, man, and don’t really get the props for it. Put me, Chris Tucker, Bernie Mac, I mean name ’em. This dude gave dudes opportunities.”

The next movie will follow the original “Friday,” which was followed by “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next.” The franchise has seen the likes of Katt Williams, Ludacris, John Wihterspoon, Don Curry, Clifton Powell, Terry Crews, and a host of others with memorable lines and appearances. And although Epps hasn’t seen a script yet, he feels the franchise will continue the tradition of bringing in young talent as the previous movies have.

“I haven’t seen the script, but I’m pretty sure it’s good,” he said. “And we’re gonna bring in the new comics. We’re gonna put the DC Young Flys and all of them in with the OGs. It’s going to be a good ass time.”

Charlamagne posed the million dollar question when he asked Epps if “Smokey,” aka Chris Tucker, will be doing the movie as well. That role possibly cemented Tucker’s legacy when the film initially came out, as he hasn’t been in any of the sequels. Most “Friday” fans have been clamoring for the return of Smokey since the first “Friday.” Epps pleaded openly to Tucker to “come on back.”

“People still love Chris Tucker, he’s still Smokey,” Epps said. “He laid it down, he positioned me to do it. So Chris, if you’re listening, we need you, baby boy. Come on back.”
