It tells the story of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, better known as TLC, the Grammy® Award-winning trio that shaped the sound of the ‘90s and redefined what it meant to be women in the music industry. Bill DigginsDiggit Theatrical Group is producing the new musical alongside Tony Award-nominated producer Stephen Gabriel who is serving as Executive Producer.

The trio stormed the ‘90s music scene, not only topping the charts—but creating the look, sound, and soul of a generation. Now visionary writer and director, Kwame Kwei-Armah (One Love: The Bob Marley Musical) brings TLC’s (mostly true) story of unshakable sisterhood to the stage, featuring a powerhouse cast, high-octane choreography by Chloe O. “TLC completely changed the game,” said producer Bill Diggins. “Their music gave a voice to women everywhere, empowering them to be confident and unapologetic. But this isn’t just a story about the music; it’s about the sisterhood between these women and what kept them together through both unimaginable challenges and chart-topping success.”

“Bringing this story to the stage is a dream come true,” said Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins. “We have performed in a lot of different venues all over the world throughout our career, but bringing our story and music to the theater is a totally new and exciting challenge.”

“We have some of the best people in the business working on this project,” said Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. “Audiences will get to hear our story – mostly fact with a sprinkle of fiction – told in our own way, and of course it’s set to all your favorite hits!”

ABOUT TLC

“TLC are legends. Icons. They will go down in the history books” – Missy Elliott

TLC are the most successful female group of all time and has spent over three decades breaking boundaries and empowering generations. The TLC story is one of sisterhood, strength and survival against the odds, having overcome extraordinary circumstances to become one of the most influential acts in pop music.

Their unique combination of chemistry, cultural impact and commercial success remains unmatched, with four multi-platinum albums and #1 singles, and over 30 major music awards – including five Grammys. TLC has sold over 85 million records globally, reaching #1 in almost every major country in the world. Their journey encompasses immortal anthems such as ‘Waterfalls,’ ‘Creep,’ ‘No Scrubs,’ and ‘Unpretty’.

When Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes founded TLC in the early ‘90s, they immediately broke new ground. The Atlanta trio’s 1992 debut Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tipmarked TLC out as a band with a message, with their baggy clothing and songs about female pleasure. CrazySexyCool followed in 1994 and took TLC stratospheric. It sold a staggering 23 million copies worldwide and, with ‘Waterfalls’, sensitively tackled issues like the AIDS crisis and gang violence. It was the first video from a female group to win Video of The Year at the MTV Music Awards.

On 1999’s Fanmail, TLC mapped out a vision of a post-millennium world with their futuristic take on pop music. The album featured another timeless classic, ‘No Scrubs’, as well as T-Boz’s self-penned empowerment song ‘Unpretty’. TLC laid the blueprint for the American girlband, setting the stage for the groups that followed. Beyonce said: “TLC has influenced just about every female group that’s out there now, and they definitely influenced Destiny’s Child”, while Missy Elliott says of TLC now that they are “Legends. Icons. They will go down in the history books.”

Today, TLC is still going strong and honoring Left Eye’s legacy. The group’s influence is everywhere from hip-hop to K-Pop: artists like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Kelahni, Tinashe, Rihanna, Ari Lennox and BLACKPINK all credit TLC as an inspiration, or have referenced them in their visuals. And their cultural impact continues to extend beyond music: TLC’s unconventional approach to style has inspired artists in every field, as has their fearless representation of femininity and self-expression across the decades.
