| (NEW YORK CITY, September 2026) – Kevin Powell, GRAMMY-nominated poet and one of the most celebrated political, cultural, literary, and hip-hop voices in America, is set to tour America with his 17th and newest book, A POEM FOR EVANGELINE, AND OTHER SONGS (Get Fresh Books Publishing) this Fall.
Additionally, this Fall, Kevin will be Poet-and-Scholar-in-Residence at Pratt Institute, a world-class, internationally ranked college with programs in art, design, architecture, liberal arts and sciences, and information studies, located in the heart of Kevin’s beloved Brooklyn, New York. Through four interactive, two-hour workshops, Pratt students will work directly with Powell and peers from across the Institute. Students will explore how creative expression connects with democracy, leadership, identity, voting, civic engagement, and community participation.
Each workshop will combine dialogue, reflection, creative exploration, and hands-on work. Students will have dedicated time to create or develop written, visual, performance-based, or other creative work connected to the session’s theme. Powell’s residency will culminate on Wednesday, November 4, with a free Pratt Presents public conversation open to the community and featuring Powell and a major American cultural figure to be announced soon.
Powell also releases “my father could not read or write,” featuring violinist Classique516 as the first single from his forthcoming poetry album due in 2027. The poem-song can be streamed HERE. |
