“POWER BOOK III: RAISING KANAN” STAR PATINA MILLER AND COSTUME DESIGNER TSIGIE WHITE TO RECEIVE TOP AWARDS AT REEL WORKS CHANGEMAKERS GALA

New York, NY – April 29, 2026 – Grammy and Tony-winning actress and singer Patina Miller will be honored with the ChangeMaker Award, while costume designer Tsigie White will receive the newly created Transformation Award at the 2026 Reel Works ChangeMakers Gala on May 20 in New York City. The event will celebrate their creative leadership and cultural impact through their work on the STARZ hit series Power Book III: Raising Kanan, as well as their wider impact in shaping a more inclusive and forward-evolving entertainment industry.

Patina Miller, a Tony Award–winning performer, is widely recognized for her portrayal of Raquel “Raq” Thomas on Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Through her work on screen and stage, including her Tony-winning turn in Pippin, Miller continues to elevate representation, expanding the scope of powerful, complex roles available to women in entertainment.

Tsigie White, the visionary costume designer behind Power Book III: Raising Kanan, has played a pivotal role in shaping the show’s distinct visual identity. Her approach to period-accurate styling of 1990s Queens has had a key role in deepening the storytelling of the series.

The Reel Works ChangeMakers Gala celebrates leaders in entertainment who have made significant strides in advancing opportunities for underrepresented communities. In addition to Miller and White, CEO of McCann Amber Guild will be presented with the ChangeMaker Award for her transformative work in film and media. Comedian, Best-Selling Author, Publisher and Creator and star of Everything’s Trash Phoebe Robinson has been confirmed to host the gala. Previous honorees include Kenan Thompson, Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and Chris Pointdexter.

Reel Works, established in 2001, empowers over 1,600 New York City youth annually through filmmaking programs and mentorship. Through intensive after-school programs and workforce readiness initiatives, Reel Works provides students with the skills needed to succeed in media careers. Notably, 100% of students who participate in the program graduate, 83% attend college, and more than half embark on careers in the media industry.
