Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Sets Record For 17 Straight Non-Losing Seasons To Start Career
The amazing career of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin has reached another pinnacle that may never be matched. When the Steelers won their most recent game on Sunday, Dec. 31, it guaranteed a winning season for the team, but also making it the 17th straight year that Tomlin has had a non-losing season.
NFL.com reported that no other coach has recorded that streak since the beginning of their career. Two coaches have a longer non-losing season streak, Super Bowl Champion coaches, Tom Landry (Dallas Cowboys), with 21 non-losing seasons, and Bill Belichick (New England Patriots), who has 19 years of non-losing seasons. With the team’s 30-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks, the Steelers kept their postseason hopes alive as the team’s record is now 9-7. With this season’s record, this also became Tomlin’s 14th season of having a winning season.

In 2009, when the Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII, Tomlin became the youngest NFL coach to take home the coveted title. He did so at the age of 36 but that record was broken when Los Angeles Rams coach, Sean McVay, won Super Bowl LVI in 2021 when he was also 36 years of age.
Another stat that the Steelers can be proud of is having the 20th straight season of ending the season with a .500 or better won-loss record. That is the second-longest streak in the history of the NFL. The record, which can be tied next season is 21, held by America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys who had 21 straight non-losing seasons from 1965-1985.
The Steelers have their last regular season game when they play the AFC’s #1 seed, the Baltimore Ravens in Maryland on Saturday, Jan. 6. The Steelers must win and also get help from two teams. If the Tennessee Titans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars and/or the Miami Dolphins beat the Buffalo Bills, then they will qualify for the postseason.
The game will be played Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
