Dwight Howard Decides Who’s Taking The Last Shot Between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant
On a recent episode of the Club 520 Podcast, Dwight Howard has this to say about the choice between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant
There’s been constant conversation and comparisons between NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan and NBA All-Star LeBron James when it comes to the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) of the NBA. In discussions between basketball fans, pundits, and sports enthusiasts, it seems that these two are the most mentioned in these talks. But, occasionally, Kobe Bryant is brought to the conversation, but those are typically talked about among the purists of sports fans, for whatever reason.
Yet, if one has to choose between who gets the ball with the game on the line, one person who has had the fortune of playing with both LeBron and Kobe has given his response. Future NBA Hall of Fame center Dwight Howard stated that if given a choice between “The King” and “Black Mamba,” he’s picking Kobe.
On a recent episode of the Club 520 Podcast, Howard stated that LeBron was his pick overall, but he had to give it to Kobe if he wanted to pass the ball to if the game is on the line.
“Everything combined, you got to give it to LeBron James. Scoring-wise, I got to say I like Kobe Bryant. If it’s late in the game, I’m giving the ball to Kobe,” Howard said. “I’m not going to give the ball to LeBron late in the game. I’m going to give it to Kobe.”
You would figure that for a man who has scored the most points in NBA history (42,184 and counting), you would want him to take that last shot. But LeBron has never been known to have the killer mentality at the end of basketball games. MJ definitely had it, Kobe was known for it. Those two players WANTED the ball at the end of the game. There was no way that MJ or Kobe were allowing ANYONE to take that last shot. And even though teams anticipated it, it did not matter to them as they were probably two of the most lethal people to have the “rock” in the waning seconds of a game.
With all the accolades that LeBron has accumulated over the years, people have always questioned his heart at the end of the game. He would pass the ball off to teammates in games, or when he did take the shots, he wouldn’t complete the job.
It’s no coincidence that Jordan, who has carried his Bulls teams to all six championships, was the driving force; there is no doubt that the Bulls would not have won championships without him. No one wanted to face MJ. Kobe, although he did have Shaquille O’Neal by his side three times, the other two he won, he was definitely the factor behind the victories. You couldn’t pry the ball out of his hands, even his teammates have complained that he shot too much, but that was expected because he always wanted to win.
LeBron? Not taking anything away from Bron, he always had a supporting team. Although he led the way, some would argue and say that if not for supporting team members, LeBron may not have won any, or not as many as four. LeBron may have been viewed as a team player for distributing the ball and including his teammates, but people want the superstar to not only win the game, but also win it by themselves.
