Killer Mike Wants Education and Gun Safety for Black People, not New Gun Laws
Rapper and activist Killer Mike did an interview with TMZ where he discussed the curfew that is being talked about in his hometown of Atlanta. He also had an opinion when it comes to new gun laws being proposed. He feels it will end up hurting Black people and insists on doing something else that may curb gun violence.
He did state that, although there needs to be a solution for the mass shootings and the illegal guns being bought, he is opposed to any new gun laws. He says that “new laws affect Blacks worst and first.” He stresses that he believes in the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms) but also mentions how the law affects Black people. He brings an example that you can own a gun but can be arrested for transporting them. He asks if there are checkpoints being set up, where would it most likely take place, in a white neighborhood in Long Island or a place where people of color dwell, like Harlem.
As he has stated, there are enough gun laws on the books and he’d prefer that Black people take courses like the Stop the Bleed courses and enlist in an organization like NAAGA (National African American Gun Association). He stresses that education about using firearms as well as knowing the laws is more beneficial than trying to implement new gun laws. Specifically for the benefit of Black people.
Before ending the discussion, Killer Mike also stated that he feels that every Black family should have 5 types of guns. A revolver, a semi-automatic, pistol, a shotgun, and a semi-automatic rifle.
He states that the founding fathers have always believed that citizens should be ready to fight against tyranny and that having access to those weapons would do the job if necessary.
