Eminem’s ‘Rap God’ Tops a Billion YouTube Views

Slim Shady‘s 2013 hit track, “Rap God,” reached YouTube billionaire status on February 16th. The video joins 30 others that reached the landmark achievement of drawing one billion-plus views to their visuals.  Just one other rapper reached the milestone, Wiz Khalifa. His “See You Again” video became billion view certified in October, 2015. It currently has 4.4 billion views.

Em’s video is off The Marshall Mathers 2 LP and has 1.5 billion views to-date. It channels scenes from The Matrix, and 80’s television character, Max Headroom.  He was a computer-generated television played by Canadian actor, Matt Frewer. The “Max Headroom” show was a hit for two seasons in 1987 and 1988.

The six-minute video directed by Rich Lee showcases the Detroit emcee taking virtually zero lyrical breaks, and name dropping over a dozen other rappers. The track made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for most words in a hit single.

Congrats to Eminem on the recent accomplishment!
