After Being Portrayed on Saturday Night Live, Deion Sanders Critiqued The Performance: ‘It Was Good’

Throughout his playing and coaching career, Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders has shown his charismatic personality at games, in reality TV shows, and music videos. So, Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson had plenty of moments to capture to portray the energetic football coach in a skit performed on the show recently. Sanders gave the comedic actor a good grade for his performance.

According to The Associated Press, Sanders saw the skit that had Thompson dressed similarly to the Colorado Buffaloes head coach and stated, “It was good.” However, he did state that there are other folks, including his son, Shilo who can do a better impersonation of him.

During his weekly press conference, he did say that he is a fan of the longtime SNL player and gave Thompson props for the portrayal.

“I’m a fan of Kenan, let’s get that straight. I love him. I love what he’s brought to comedy, over what? It gotta be over a couple of decades now, it seems as though,” Sanders said. He then went on to remind people that he had also hosted the long-running show (February 18, 1995) and loved the experience. And as far as Thompson’s portrayal?

“It was good.”

Thompson appeared wearing a white Colordao hoodie and baseball cap and mimicking Sanders while being questioned by fellow SNL player, Colin Jost. They also included a clip of when Sanders performed on the show during his football-playing career when he released the record, “Must Be the Money.” The song sampled Secret Weapon’s hit single, “Must Be the Music” and was released in 1994 on MC Hammer’s label, Bust It Records.

Although the Buffaloes have a winning record of 4-3, the team record in PAC-12 (Pacific-12 Conference) play is only 1-3. Despite the close to .500 record, the team has already surpassed expectations and last season’s record. Last year, the Buffaloes only recorded one victory against 11 losses while only having a win-loss record of 1-8 in conference play.

The unranked team will go up against No. 23 UCLA Bruins who has an overall winning record of 5-2.
