Coming into 2017 with a bang, Young Dolph recruits Lil Yachty for “Bagg,” a street hustler’s anthem on having the finest things in life. “It’s a feel good club song,” Dolph explains. “It’s a crazy song, that shit has so much energy on it. It’s about having a bag of everything: money, weed, clothes, everything.” “Bagg” is the first single off Young Dolph’s forthcoming Gelato mixtape, which releases on February 3rd.
Gelato will hold 10 tracks, featuring Lil Yachty and fellow Paper Route Empire member Jay Fizzle. “It’s a weed smoking, money counting album,” says Young Dolph. “This album is for when you have those days when you wake up and it’s Friday or Saturday and your whole day finna be lit. It’s like, ‘My folks are with me, we finna have fun, we’re gonna smoke hella weed all day, we’re hitting up the spot, then the other spot, getting fresh at the mall, change clothes four times a day, we’re gonna hit the clubs at night, etc. It’s for when you’re feeling good all day. Music to put in your ride. It’s that feel good music, it’s the party, it’s finna turn the clubs upside down.”
After a triumphant 2016, Dolph has become one of the most popular and prolific independent rappers in the game today. His last project, Rich Crack Baby, boasted features from T.I., Gucci Mane, Boosie Badazz, 21 Savage, Wale and 2 Chainz and production from Zaytoven, Drumma Boy, Honorable C-Note, among others. Rich Crack Baby was the third mixtape from Young Dolph’s busy 2016, following the release of Bo$$e$ and $hooter$ in May and King of Memphis in February. Noisey described King of Memphis, a 11-track dose of pure Dolph with no featured artists, as “a solid debut album from one of the most quietly popular artists in the South right now.” The Memphis artist was deemed one of Forbes‘ Hip-Hop Cash Princes of 2016, placing him alongside Fetty Wap, G-Eazy, and Metro Boomin, among others. A frequent collaborator in the trap world, Dolph also appeared on “Bling Blaww Burr,” the lead single on Gucci Mane‘s Woptober.
Stay tuned for Young Dolph’s Gelato mixtape, releasing February 3rd.
