Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation Awards $1 Million in Scholarships to 100 Incoming HBCU Students
Hip-Hop artist and entrepreneur Travis Scott is, once again, helping to supply college students with a chance to successfully obtain their college education.
Earlier this week, Scott’s non-profit organization, Cactus Jack Foundation announced that it had awarded $1 million in scholarships to 100 students who are attending the 38 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) this year.
“Waymon Webster was a Dean of the Prairie View A&M graduate school. My grandfather wanted me to take it all the way through college, I feel there is a power in education so to be able to give someone the opportunity to fulfill that dream as my papa thought for me is amazing.” Travis Scott said in a written statement.
For the second straight year, the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund (which was named after Travis Scott’s grandfather for his dedication toward Black academic excellence) has granted 100 $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors who are graduating to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund supplies financial support to students and families towards their final tuition fees. This will assist as many students as possible to help them graduate and receive their college diplomas.
For those students who want to be eligible to receive a scholarship, they must be a graduating senior with an average GPA (grade point average) of 3.5 or higher. They may also be experiencing financial challenges in their final semester in high school.
This news comes after Scott performed at the recent Billboard Music Awards this past weekend. And following reports that Scott had just booked his first headlining gig since last year’s Astroworld tragedy that claimed the lives of 10 people and injured hundreds of others.
The Primavera Sound’s upcoming festival in São Paulo, Brazil, announced the Texas rapper as its headlining act. According to Rolling Stone, the festival is scheduled for Nov. 6, 2022, which places it one year and one day after the Astroworld Festival on Nov. 5, 2021. Primavera Sound São Paulo reps refused to comment. Other artists performing at the two-day festival include JPEGMAFIA, Arctic Monkeys, and Lorde.
