Jonathan Jones Receives the New England Patriots 2023 Ron Burton Community Service Award
A patriot in the community has been acknowledged for the work he does off the football field whenever he is not making plays on it.
The New England Patriots have announced that defensive back Jonathan Jones was presented with the 2023 New England Patriots Ron Burton Community Service Award. This honor took place last week at the Patriots’ Premiere on the field at Gillette Stadium. The defensive back became the 21st Patriots player to receive the award, which acknowledges the outstanding commitment that someone makes when giving back to the community.
Patriots Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Kraft handed the 2023 New England Patriots Ron Burton Community Service Award to Jones and gave the defensive player recognition for his cause.
“Jonathan prides himself on giving back to the community with his Next Step Foundation and its commitment to the youth in both Boston and in his hometown of Carrollton, Georgia,” said Kraft. “I am impressed with his initiative to team up with ‘Play Like a Girl’ that was inspired by his daughter, Skyler. Jonathan has empowered girls to teach the transferable skills girls gain from sports to give them the competitive edge in the classroom and propel them into careers in science.”
This award is named in honor of the late Ron Burton who was the first player drafted by the team when they first entered the NFL in 1960. He was known for being a community leader who did charity work off the field.
Jones becomes the latest Patriots player to receive the Ron Burton Community Service Award. He joins the following players who have been bestowed with this award: Deatrich Wise (2022), Lawrence Guy (2021), David Andrews (2020), Kyle Van Noy (2019), Joe Cardona (2018), Jordan Richards (2017), Rob Gronkowski (2016), Nate Solder (2015), Devin McCourty (2014), Matthew Slater (2013), Zoltan Mesko (2012), Jerod Mayo (2011), Vince Wilfork (2010), Kevin Faulk (2009), Larry Izzo (2008), Ty Warren (2007), Jarvis Green (2006), Matt Light (2005), Troy Brown (2004) and Joe Andruzzi (2003).
