Lyrically riveting, “Black Moses” speaks on many themes including the mass incarceration of black men and the general lack of common freedoms for oppressed people. On the song, SmCity even slyly touches upon a different kind of slavery, one born out of record label contracts:
“See n*ggas was slaves over the atlantic/same way there’s some slaves over at Atlantic”
New History is the follow-up to SmCity’s 2014 project Empire Falls which quickly touched nearly every major Hip-Hop outlet and featured production from the likes of DJ Toomp, Statik Selektah, Cookin’ Soul and more.
