There may be a changing of the guards in the land of morning talk shows!

According to New York Post’s Page Six, there is a real possibility that multi-talented personality and entrepreneur Nick Cannon could be starting the talk show that had been pushed back previously. Network executives are seriously considering giving Cannon the time slot that the currently ailing Wendy Williams presently has.

A source told Page Six that “The executives have been talking. They are keeping a close eye on [Williams’] recovery and hoping for the best. But they have pushed back [her] show premiere several times so they are already thinking of a backup plan. It would not be a far stretch for Nick to take her time slot… Debmar-Mercury [which produces both shows] is really pushing to make Nick Cannon’s show a huge success. He already has a major platform, and a huge fanbase, so it is an easy win. So, if Wendy’s show ends up being a no-go, their backup plan is already set.”

After postponing the season premiere of The Wendy Williams Show two times, a recent post on The Wendy Williams Show’s Instagram account announced that the show’s upcoming season debut will be postponed for a third time due to “some ongoing medical issues” suffered by the show’s host.

It was posted that Williams would not be returning with the previously announced start date for the new season on Oct. 4. She was previously and continues to be under a doctor’s care, thereby reportedly still not ready to return to work. The expected start date was pushed back to Oct. 18. The account had also stated that the COVID COVID case she had, was no longer an issue.

Although no premiere date was presented, earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the syndicated Nick Cannon talk show that was initially set to debut in the fall of 2020 will be making its premiere in the fall of 2021.

The daytime talk show, titled Nick Cannon, is back on with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, who will distribute the show, with Fox Television Stations serving as the lead affiliate group.
