Glittering event included unannounced performance, private dinner and gifts for moms, and activities for kids

December 17, 2024 (St. Louis, MO) – Nearly 200 single moms got their moment to shine in downtown St. Louis on Sunday night when they accepted Leland “Metro Boomin” Wayne’s invitation to his second annual Single Moms Are Superheroes Soiree.

“I was born and raised in St. Louis by a single mother, and I know I would not be where I am today without her,” says Wayne. “We want to top ourselves every year at this event, so we moved to a bigger room, added even more gifts for the moms, created some special experiences for their kids, and tapped my friend Nelly to start the night off with a private concert.”

Wayne organized the evening in honor of his late mother, Leslie JoAnne, for whom he named a nonprofit foundation. To date, he has donated $550,000 to women-focused nonprofits throughout the country.

Wayne welcomed 198 moms, 284 children, and 210 invited guests to the beautiful Stifel Theatre. The guest list was compiled with help from twelve local nonprofit organizations that serve single mothers including Rung for Women, which assists Wayne with his work through the Leslie Joanne Foundation.

It was Leslie JoAnne who bought Leland his first Parental Advisory album, Country Grammar by fellow St. Louis artist Nelly, who was also raised by a single mother. The event provided an opportunity for the two men to support one another and celebrate their special connection before Nelly performed hits including “Hot in Herre,” “Dilemma,” and “Country Grammar.” He was backed by the Georgia Mae Band and musicians from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

“Our superpower is our unconditional love for our babies,” said St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones, speaking during the program and who is herself a single mother. “It is a love that is so profound, so transformative that it shapes lives, it builds futures, and it strengthens communities.”

Other notable guests included Missouri Governor-Elect Mike Kehoe, Rung for Women President & CEO Leslie Gill, and Director of Amazon Access Nancy Dalton. Amazon Access was the presenting sponsor of the event.

“As mothers, we want to be worthy of imitation,” said Dalton. “We want our children to see there is nothing they cannot be and cannot do.”

Additional sponsors include St. Louis CITY Soccer Club, Republic Records, Live Nation, Stifel, St. Louis Cardinals, and Bravado. The evening was presented by The Leslie Joanne Foundation.
