Feature Length Piece on Civil Rights Leader’s Life and Rise Vying for Outstanding Current Affair Documentary Award
New York, NY (July 25, 2024) – Loudmouth: The Life and Rise of Rev. Al Sharpton was announced today as a nominee for the Emmy Awards’ Outstanding Current Affairs Documentary, following the film’s debut on BET and Showtime last year. The highly acclaimed documentary chronicles Rev. Sharpton’s rise from a street activist in New York City to one of the most recognizable civil rights leaders in the nation.
“My hope for Loudmouth has always been that it would inspire the next generation of activists to get off the sidelines and fight for their communities,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN). “I am excited about this Emmy nomination because it comes at a time when the future of democracy and civil rights in the United States are on the brink. Hopefully Loudmouth continues to show that the fight for justice is long, but in the end it will come if we never give up.”
Loudmouth first aired on BET in June 2023, following a successful run in theaters the previous December. The film captures key moments in Rev. Sharpton’s career, including protests against the killings of Michael Griffith in Howard Beach, Yusef Hawkins in Bensonhurst, and George Floyd in Minneapolis. The film is available to stream on Paramount+ and regularly has aired on Showtime. Loudmouth is also available for DVD purchase.
LOUDMOUTH is written, produced, and directed by Josh Alexander. Executive producers are John Legend, Ty Stiklorius, Austyn Biggers, Salman Al-Rashid, Sam Frohman, Brenda Gilbert, Aaron L.
