(July 27, 2023 – New York, NY) After organically building buzz to a boiling point, New York-based recording artist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist INIKO [pron: they/them] proudly presents their much awaited music video for their breakout track “Jericho.” Watch the Anastasia Delmark directed video.
The video stands out as a first-of-its-kind collaboration among INIKO, the Sony Immersive team and Sony Innovation Studios (SIS). Shot on SIS’ virtual production stage that utilizes Sony’s Crystal LED display and captured with Sony’s VENICE Cameras, the video’s high-fashion sci-fi aesthetic proves both stunning and provocative and allows for a cinematic and immersive feel.
Says Iniko, “This video is a visual representation of the power of original thought and how important it is to let go of social norms and understandings in order to reach your highest self. The entire video is a journey to finding the power within you to break down walls that have existed in our thoughts, the predetermined ones, because it is what is behind those walls that will bring forth growth.”
The video is set in a dystopia where INIKO inhabits two characters on either side of a power struggle. The action unfolds at a fast pace in vignettes worthy of the big screen propelled by sweeping vistas of this ruinous, alien-esque world. Yet, at the heart of the visual is Iniko’s display of fearlessness and their delivery of their inspiring lyrics: “I don’t need gravity” / “And I don’t need to be humble, break down walls like Jericho crumble.”
“Jericho” has emerged as a promising track in its own right. INIKO initially shared just a snippet of “Jericho”, and it blew up on TikTok to the tune of nearly 40 million views and 5 million “likes” and proved to be a crowd-pleaser when performed at their sold out shows. Early press support came from Billboard who included “Jericho” among “Queer Jams of the Week,” noting, “This spellbinding single is a masterclass in using the voice as an instrument.”
A passionate live performer, INIKO sold out multiple dates on their “Cosmic Lounge Tour” this Spring and will perform at Afropunk Brooklyn Circus of Soul on August 26 and 27 alongside the likes of Joey Bada$$, Vince Staples, Toby Nwigwe, Baby Tate and more. |
