Coco Gauff May Soon Be Trained By Venus and Serena Williams’ Former Tennis Coach Rick Macci
The man who once coached Venus and Serena Williams before their careers took off may soon be coaching another tennis phenom.
According to Sportskeeda, the man who helped Venus and Serena perfect their tennis game, Rick Macci is interested in doing the same for tennis player Coco Gauff. In a recent podcast by the brother of tennis legend, John McEnroe, Patrick McEnroe, in an update, stated that Macci is looking to help fine-tune her game. He sees potential in the 19-year-old winning several major tournaments in the future.
Last week, on Patrick’s podcast, Holding Court with Patrick McEnroe, he revealed that Macci, who is a seven-time winner of the United States Professional Tennis Association’s National Coach of the Year award has been in contact with Gauff’s current trainer, her father, Corey Gauff. The successful trainer has also helped the careers of other tennis legends like Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, and Maria Sharapova.
The flaw in Gauff’s game apparently is her forehand according to Macci. Patrick says on the podcast that Macci is the right person to correct that for her.
“Nobody better at breaking down the technical aspects of the game. And according to him, he’s been in touch with Coco’s father about possibly spending some time to obviously try to fix that forehand. Because we all know the forehand swing and the technique on the forehead is very shaky.
“And Rick said to me, if he could spend a solid amount of time with her, that he thinks she can win multiple, multiple majors because right now it’s not solid enough off the forehand that he believes she can do it at the moment.”
Although Gauff just recently lost to Paula Badosa in straight sets at the 2023 Madrid Open, she is still ranked in the top 10.
Macci did express concern about her forehand and addressed it in a Tweet last month.
@cocogauff and her forehand will be addressed and will become her best shot someday. Needs time off with the exact biomechanical plan to reprogram the reflexes of 12 years and confuse the muscle memory. All the advice the past 5 years has been a band aid.

Tennis World also points out that opponents often target Gauff’s weakness. Macci feels that he is able to remove that weakness from Gauff who has been ranked as high as number 4 and already has competed in a Grand Slam final before reaching her 19th birthday.
