“Growing up in Chicago, it wasn’t always easy. But having family, faith, music and supporting my community of Bronzeville made it home. As the song says, ‘If we’re faithful over a few things, the good lord will give you much'”

-Sir The Baptist

Atlantic recording artist Sir The Baptist has announced the release of his powerful new anthem. “What We Got” is available everywhere today at all DSPs and streaming services http://smarturl.it/BuyWhatWeGot.

“What We Got” – produced & written by Sir himself – heralds the upcoming release of Sir The Baptist’s full-length debut project, “PK: PREACHER’S KID,” arriving later this fall. The project also includes the hit single, “Raise Hell” (Feat. ChuchPeople), available now for download and at all streaming services. “What We Got” finds Sir delivering a new message of faith & fulfillments for all that you have in life. He peels back the many layers of today’s black economics, challenging us to look at fairness, equality and morality in our community. “Working with Sir The Baptist was an innovative high! Although some may feel or have felt it was risky, I didn’t,” Donald states after hearing the completed version.  The track’s companion video – featuring Grammy-winning producer/songwriter Donald Lawrence will make its debut later this month.

“Raise Hell” (Feat. ChuchPeople) is undoubtedly one of the biggest new tracks of the year, earning more than 2 million Spotify streams as well as a BET Hip Hop Awards nomination in the “Impact Track of the Year” category. The BET Hip Hop Awards will be presented later this month in Atlanta for broadcast Tuesday, October 4th at 8/7c (check local listings).

In addition, the “Raise Hell” (Feat. ChuchPeople) companion video is one of the most provocative in recent memory, incorporating images of demonstrations from around the globe from the perspective of the protesters themselves. “Raise Hell” (Feat. ChuchPeople) is streaming now at Sir The Baptist’s official YouTube channel.

Sir The Baptist spent much of his summer on his “Follow The Robe Tour,” lighting it up at a diverse array of summer festivals, including Manifest 2016 (Chicago, IL), Shaky Beats Festival (Atlanta, GA), Sasquatch! Music Festival (George, WA), Free Press Summer Fest (Houston, TX), Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival (Manchester, TN), Lollapalooza (Chicago, IL), and Afropunk Festival (Brooklyn, NY). The latter performance earned wide-ranging national attention, including a major profile on CNN.com that proved the day’s #1 trending post. What’s more, Sir received special recognition from longtime Idol, Jay Z backstage following another electrifying performance at this year’s Made In America festival in Philadelphia.

The “Follow The Robe Tour” continues this month with eagerly anticipated sets at Thrival Innovation + Music Festival (Pittsburgh, PA – Sept. 23rd), Life Is Beautiful (Las Vegas, NV – Sept. 24th), Adventures in the Park (Lakewood, NJ – Oct. 8th), and Voodoo Music + Arts Experience (New Orleans, LA – Oct. 28th – 30th). As if that weren’t enough, the Chicago-based contemporary urban lyricist will rock his hometown as a part of Common’s AAHH! Fest alongside Common, J. Cole, The Roots and more in Chicago’s Union Park on Sunday, September 25th. For updates and ticket information, please see sirthebaptist.com/#shows.

Born Sir William James Stokes, in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood, Sir The Baptist took his love of music and inspiration from his preacher/social activist father and created a sound all his own, an individualistic amalgam of soul, hip hop, R&B, jazz, doo-wop, pop, and gospel he calls “church pub rap.” Sir captured a national audience first via his contribution to Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment’s “Familiar” (featured on 2015’s acclaimed “SURF”) and then through his own extraordinary releases including such tracks as “Wake Up” (Feat. ChuchPeople), hailed by VIBE as “a bold statement for social justice in America.”

Tracks like “Creflo ‘Almighty’ Dollar” (Feat. Twista & ChuchPeople) and “Raise Hell” (Feat. ChuchPeople) followed and fast proved a sensation, the latter hitting #1 on Spotify’s Viral 50. In addition, LA Weekly declared the “Raise Hell” companion video to be “a visual blitz on America’s racially divided state, cutting between imagery of Sir singing in a church setting and protests that have taken place across the country in response to police killings of black men. The song is a call for social change not just for black people but for all minorities.” “Raise Hell” and much more can be found now at Sir The Baptist’s official Spotify channel.

Sir has been featured across a broad spectrum of national media, including Seth Meyers, BET.com, Chicago’s WGN Plus’ “Artistic License” podcast, and The Chicago Tribune, which noted Sir’s “music is complex, multifaceted and can’t be limited to any single genre.” Much of it is rooted in classic styles, but it has a contemporary heart that feels unique. It is the sort of music that can translate to a variety of different ages and audiences if given the proper exposure.”
