Shannon Mitchell Discusses All About Us Festival: A Juneteenth Celebration

Although Juneteenth is a new federal holiday, Black people have been celebrating it for years. Shannon Mitchell, founder of the All About Us Festival, which is embarking on its second year, knows the importance of the holiday. With last year’s inaugural event, he aimed to gather people in the Jersey City, NJ community to not only celebrate the holiday but to celebrate community as well.

The event, which is scheduled to take place on June 19, will be at Liberty Park in Jersey City, NJ. After having hip-hop legend, Slick Rick as the featured artist last year, this year’s festival will have two other recording artists who have made their mark in the music industry. Grammy-nominated artist Music Soulchild, New Jersey native, and Billboard Music Award winner Crystal Water will showcase their talent, as well as their catalog of hits at the park. Joining them will be other talent like British-Ghanaian record producer DJ Juls and hosts Swaggy Sie and Duckie Confetti.

This year, the All About Us Festival proudly announces its partnership with the esteemed National Juneteenth Museum founded by Dr. Opal Lee, known for her integral instrumental efforts in helping to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday.

The Industry Cosign spoke to Mitchell about the reason the festival was started, who is involved, and how he envisions All About Us in the coming years.

If you are in Jersey City and the surrounding areas, come down to see the cultural impact that will be displayed through Black-owned businesses, whether it’s through food, culture, music, art, entertainment, cocktails, and the family atmosphere that will welcome all people to celebrate Juneteenth in all aspects that will be enjoyed. Come one, come all!
