Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Makes Surprise Visit to The Bronx Capital Preparatory Charter School

SEAN “DIDDY” COMBS SURPRISES STUDENTS AT HIS CAPITAL PREPARATORY BRONX CHARTER SCHOOL

WHO:    Sean “Diddy” Combs

WHAT:  Sean “Diddy” Combs made a special surprise appearance at his Capital Preparatory Bronx Charter School to speak with the students and kick-off another successful school year.

When he arrived he gave an inspirational speech to a crowd of approximately 160 kids followed by a quick Q&A with the students. The CPB Cheerleading Team surprised Mr. Combs with a performance to his new Queens Remix for his hit single, Gotta Move On, which was released at the end of last week.

There is a quote on the wall of the cafeteria from Mr. Combs that reads “Don’t be afraid to close your eyes and dream, then open your eyes and see!”

He elaborated on this statement in his speech and said “What this means is that you can dream of all the big things you want in the world, but you’re going to have to work to get it. Especially here in the Bronx, we know that nobody is going to give us nothing. We’re going to have to go get it. It’s a lot of sacrifice, a lot of discipline, and a lot of focus. Get locked in on your dream.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs spent five years meeting privately with community leaders and education experts before the Harlem school opened in 2016 in an effort to expand educational opportunities for young men and women in the community. Mr. Combs gifted $1M to the Capital Preparatory Schools network in 2018 for the new location in the Bronx which opened in the Fall of 2020. The network of schools is overseen by educator and Combs’ co-founder, Dr. Steve Perry, and the principal of Capital Preparatory Bronx Charter School is Isaiah Brown. Mr. Combs serves in an advisory and support capacity to the school on various initiatives, financially as well as in-kind.

MORE INFORMATION: Capital Preparatory Schools’ mission is to provide historically disadvantaged students with the college and career readiness skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice. Capital Preparatory Schools continues to follow the model of Capital Prep Magnet School founded by Dr. Steve Perry in 2005 and located in Hartford, CT. Their unique approach to educating the whole child has delivered incredible results, where 100% of its low-income, minority, first- generation high school graduates have been accepted to four-year colleges every year since its first class graduated in 2006. This success has led to the opening of 3 additional schools, CapitalPrep Harbor Upper and Lower in Bridgeport, CT (2015), and Capital Prep Harlem in New York City (2016), and Capital Prep Bronx, (2020) in partnership with Sean “Diddy” Combs.
