A Panoramic Experience: Art, Conversations, and Community
This year’s theme, “Ubuntu: I Am Because We Are,” underscores the power of community and interconnectedness. Inspired by the African Bantu philosophy of humanity, the event seeks to elevate the African-American experience through art and dialogue. Congressman John Lewis once said, “We are one people, one family, the human family, and what affects one of us affects us all.”
Point Comfort will feature renowned artists, including Solomon Adufah, Tasanee Durrett, Adonis Parker, Basil Watson, Chris Clark, Brandon Clarke, Phil Shung, and Rahsaan’ Fly Guy’ Alexander in a curated outdoor exhibition under an 80×40-foot tent in the Gardens. Inside the Historic Ward Rooming House, visitors will explore exhibitions that showcase the richness of African-American art and heritage.
“The Point Comfort Art Fair + Show is not just an exhibition—it’s a tribute to our shared humanity and the transformative power of art. This year’s theme, Ubuntu: I Am Because We Are, highlights the profound connections that unite us and celebrate the African-American experience. Held at the Historic Ward Rooming House—a landmark of history and resilience—we are proud to bring together artists, community, and culture to inspire dialogue and foster unity. We invite everyone to join us in this journey of discovery and celebration during Miami Art Week/Soul Basel 2024.”-Chris Norwood-Cofounder Hampton Art Lovers.

Hampton Art Lovers operates the Historic Ward Rooming House Gallery in Overtown, Miami. Built-in the early 1900s and rebuilt in 1925 by Bahamian architect Shaddrack Ward and his wife Victoria, the Ward Rooming House provided accommodations to out-of-town Blacks and Native Americans during segregation. It frequently housed Bahamian immigrants and remained a significant link to Overtown’s early African-American community.Restored and repurposed, the building now serves as an art gallery curated by Hampton Art Lovers.
The Lois Mailou Jones Patio & Gardens is an outdoor community space that hosts concerts, events, and the Point Comfort Art Fair. Adjacent to the gallery is Dunn’s Overtown Farms, founded by Dr. Marvin Dunn, a historian, educator, and advocate for racial equity. Dr. Dunn also directs Roots in the City and the Teach the Truth Garden, which promotes urban gardening and African-American history.
