Rooted in the raw, synth-driven pulse of late ’70s and ’80s Minneapolis funk and the joyful R&B, soul and pop soundtrack of Mýa’s childhood, Retrospect moves like a bridge between eras. “We created this project with the intention to transport us back to a special time in music and culture that brought so much love, laughter, joy and reflection to our lives,” Mýa says. “The days of cassette tapes, vinyl, the most amazing gatherings, concerts, house parties, skate nights and date nights. Who’s ready to go back?!” Anchored by lead single “ASAP” a Top 20 Adult R&B Airplay record and its 21 Savage-assisted remix, the album features a cross-generational cast including Snoop Dogg, Too $hort, D-Nice, Joyner Lucas, Dizzy Wright and Phil Ade. “The world has yet to receive the best of Mýa.”
