It Needs to be CED: ‘Wait, There’s Still Racism in America?’
It is one of the most idiotic statements and/or thoughts for people to actually believe the act of racism doesn’t exist. As I’ve written before, many times in the past, it never left! It’s been masked, repackaged and shown in less obvious ways, yet, some people actually believe things have gotten better because it ‘looks good’ on the surface.
Recent news reports include The Starbucks incident in Philadelphia, LA Fitness in Secaucus, NJ and Syracuse University’s Theta Tau fraternity. Now, remember, these are incidents that are REPORTED, knowing that there are MANY more taking place nationally, whether subliminal and outright obvious.
Employers, restaurants, department stores, public transporation services, just about anywhere you can enter, it’s more likely to happen at some point in time.
I was very upset when Philadelphia’s Police Commissioner, Richard Ross, a BLACK man, immediately defended his officers in the Starbucks incident (He’s recently apologized for doing so….). Further complicating the notion that racism played no part in what happened. This must stop!
“I’ve spent the last few days in Philadelphia with my leadership team listening to the community, learning what we did wrong and the steps we need to take to fix it,” CEO Kevin Johnson said in a statement Tuesday. “While this is not limited to Starbucks, we’re committed to being a part of the solution. Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities.”
As far as Starbucks closing their stores on the afternoon of May 29th to conduct a racial-bias education program, do you REALLY have to teach people how not to discriminate?
