Cabin in the Sky marks De La Soul’s first studio album in nine years, following 2016’s and the Anonymous Nobody, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. The new album includes production by DJ Premier, Super Dave, Pete Rock and features standout artists such as Killer Mike, Yukimi from Little Dragon, Common, Nas and Black Thought and reaffirms the group’s legacy as one of hip-hop’s most influential and forward-thinking acts, blending inventive lyricism, sharp production, and the soulful innovation that has defined their sound for nearly four decades. “Cabin in the Sky lives in that space between loss and light. It’s about the pain we carry and the joy that somehow still finds us. This album is therapy and celebration at the same time. There’s a vulnerability in these songs, because everything we’ve been through has brought us to this moment, to this album, honoring what we’ve lost and lifting up what still remains. That duality. That’s life, and that’s De La,” says Pos. Cabin in the Sky stands as a bridge between eras, reaffirming De La Soul’s pioneering role in shaping alternative hip-hop while celebrating their evolution. The album is the sixth release of Mass Appeal’s Legend Has Itcampaign, celebrating 7 iconic artists all releasing new music, including: Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Big L, De La Soul and Nas/DJ Premier. With Cabin in the Sky, De La Soul once again defines the intersection of legacy and innovation. The album’s production blends soulful sampling and modern beats, mirroring the group’s signature style while pushing their artistry into bold, new territory. For longtime fans and new listeners alike, the project affirms why De La Soul remains one of the most enduring and beloved names in hip-hop history. “The music on this record is not old, just seasoned. It’s what we call adult hip-hop: something rooted in the culture but speaking to where we are now. The beauty is that it still connects with the younger heads too. They can feel the honesty, the craft, and that De La Soul DNA running through it. We’re bridging generations with this one,” adds DJ Mase. De La Soul will tape a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on November 20 airing on ABC on November 25(check local listings) ahead of their headline appearance at the Neon City Las Vegas Festival on November 21. The album’s release timing and live performances highlight a new creative era for the legendary group, merging nostalgia with fresh energy and purpose.
