Coach Lana Whitehead has built her career around helping people move forward. From supporting children and families to creating programs that address community needs, the New Brunswick, New Jersey, native brings a practical approach to personal growth: encourage people, provide resources, and put those words into action.

As CEO and Certified Professional Life Coach of Sharpened Mindz, and founder of Sharpened Mindz World Nonprofit, Whitehead combines coaching, education, and community advocacy. Her work reaches audiences through children’s books, empowering curricula, radio hosting, music, and public speaking. Each platform provides another opportunity to help people develop confidence and recognize their potential.

Her album, Coach Lana’s Positive Affirmations Vol. 1, carries that message through music. The project complements her coaching and educational efforts, giving listeners another way to engage with positive thinking and self-belief. Whether she is writing for children or addressing an audience, Whitehead consistently focuses on helping people see possibilities for themselves.

Her background in athletics and more than two decades in New Jersey’s child welfare sector have shaped that approach. Working with children and families has placed her close to the challenges that can affect stability, opportunity, and personal development. In 2018, the American Bar Association recognized her work reunifying children in inner-city communities. Her leadership has also received recognition from the NAACP and the Boy Scouts of America.

Whitehead’s commitment to service is reflected in the scale of her grassroots efforts. During the pandemic, Operation Uplift the Community delivered over 10,000 Uplift Baskets in partnership with Walmart. Filled with essential supplies, toys, and messages of hope, the baskets supported families and first responders during a difficult period.

She also led outreach with the NAACP and the Black Women’s Physicians Association, connecting more than 5,000 underserved residents with COVID vaccination resources. That work paired community relationships with access to information and services.

Across five core grassroots initiatives, Whitehead has directed over $250,000 into marginalized communities. Those initiatives include Books, Barbershops & Beyond, which promotes literacy; POP Pocketbook Outreach, focused on domestic violence awareness; Girlz vs World, supporting women’s advocacy; Middlesex County Reentry Ambassadors; and Homeless Outreach. Together, they reflect the range of needs her work addresses, from educational access to support for people navigating major life transitions.

Her advocacy extends to gun violence awareness. Through partnerships with Moms Demand Action in 2019 and 2026, Whitehead helped secure official proclamations from New Brunswick Mayor Jim Cahill supporting annual Wear Orange observances across Middlesex County. She also serves as Vice Chairman of the Middlesex County Human Services Board, bringing her experience into local community leadership.

Through Sharpened Mindz and her nonprofit initiatives, Coach Lana Whitehead connects personal encouragement with organized action. Her work shows how coaching can extend beyond individual conversations and into the everyday lives of families and neighborhoods. For Whitehead, helping someone believe in a better future goes hand in hand with helping them access the support to pursue it.
