Janet Jackson Releases Trailer For Upcoming Documentary ‘Janet’
It’s almost 40 years since Janet Jackson took her vocal talents to the studio to continue in the family tradition of recording an album and she has teased a new documentary to celebrate it.
The “Rhythm Nation” artist took to Instagram on Monday to release a trailer of her upcoming 4-hour documentary “Janet,” which will make its debut in January 2022 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of her first album, “Janet Jackson.”

The documentary, “Janet” will air over two nights in January 2022 on the Lifetime channel and A&E to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her debut album, “Janet Jackson.”
“Janet” has been executive produced by Janet and her older brother, The Jackson 5 member, Randy Jackson. Rick Murray executive produces for Workerbee and Brie Miranda Bryant serves as executive producer for A&E Networks. Ben Hirsch is directing.
According to Variety, Jacksonās very first album, which was a self-titled project, āJanet Jackson,ā was released back in 1982 when she was only 16. “This is my story told by me, not through someone elseās eyes. This is the truth. Take it or leave it, love it or hate it. This is me,” Jackson says in the trailer for the documentary.
The four-hour documentary, which was over five years in the making, follows Jackson as the Jackson family is going through the loss of the man who groomed them all for the music and entertainment business, their father, Joseph, who passed away back in 2018. The documentary also reveals selected footage and detailed accounts of some of Janet Jacksonās biggest moments throughout her storied career, which includes the controversial 2004 Super Bowl appearance with fellow child actor turned singer Justin Timberlake (Formerly of the boy band group, Nsync).
