Howard University Showtime Marching Band Will Perform at Washington Redskins Home Game on Oct. 21

The Howard University Showtime Marching Band will be the halftime performance during the NFL Washington Redskins home game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 21 at FedExField. Howard will be the only guest band to perform this season.

“We got a call from the Redskins organization asking if we would be interested in doing a halftime show for them,” says Band Director John Newson. “We performed for them years ago before they added their own band, so it’s an honor to be invited back with a new generation of student musicians.”

Washington Redskins Chief Marketing Officer Steve Ziff explains that hosting Howard at the stadium was an obvious choice since the band was so well received in the past.

Howard University’s Showtime Band brings an incredible amount of energy to FedExField, and we’re thrilled to have them back again for our rivalry game against the Cowboys,” said Ziff. “It’s an honor to host this historically prominent group from one of the pillars of the Washington, D.C. community.”

The Showtime Band, consisting of approximately 100 performers, will present an 8-9 minute set.

Newson promises the performance will be one for the record books.

“Our goal is to always display a well-rounded show, complete with precision drills and musicality in addition to the dance routines that make the band so popular. It’s going to be an exciting show,” says Newson.

Alumni, family and friends of Howard University are invited to attend the game and join the festivities to get a pre-Homecoming glimpse of the band in action. The Washington Redskins take on the Dallas Cowboys at 4:25 pm ET on Oct. 21.
