Driving Opportunity Beyond the Fairway

At the heart of Urban Golf Weekend is the Urban Golf Foundation, Inc., the organization’s 501(c)(3) charitable foundation dedicated to using golf as a vehicle for community development, mentorship, education, and economic opportunity. Through year-round programming focused on youth and adult engagement, workforce development, and expanded access to the game, the Foundation works to remove barriers that have historically limited participation in golf and to create pathways to leadership, relationship-building, personal growth, and career success on and off the course.

Urban Golf Weekend is the Foundation’s signature fundraising and awareness event, supporting HBCU golf scholarships, youth golf programs, mentorship opportunities, and community partnerships that introduce more young people and families to the game.

Over the past four years, Urban Golf Weekend and Urban Golf Foundation have invested more than $50,000 in scholarships and youth initiatives, helping cultivate the next generation of golfers, leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

From Charity Tournament to National Movement

Urban Golf Weekend was founded by Clifton Addison, who believes golf can be much more than a sport. It can be a vehicle for connection, mentorship, economic empowerment, and lasting community impact.

The idea was born after Addison was introduced to the game through Fore Life, an organization dedicated to introducing more young people to golf. When asked to help organize a charitable golf tournament to support the organization’s mission, he saw an opportunity to create more than a single fundraising event.

Drawing on his business and golf experience, Addison envisioned a culturally relevant destination experience that would introduce more people of color to the sport and create opportunities for networking, entrepreneurship, mentorship, leadership development, and relationship-building.

As that vision grew, Addison partnered with Woody Remy, Founder and President of Brainstorm Miami, to transform the concept into one of the country’s most distinctive golf-and-lifestyle experiences.

What began as a charitable initiative has evolved into a nationally recognized movement where business, culture, philanthropy, wellness, and golf intersect to drive lasting impact.

To extend that mission beyond Labor Day Weekend, Addison established the Urban Golf Foundation, Inc., ensuring the organization’s work continues year-round. The Foundation provides scholarships, mentorship, youth engagement, workforce development, and community partnerships that leverage golf as a catalyst for opportunity and social impact.

Now in its fourth year, Urban Golf Weekend continues to redefine the golf experience by creating a space where culture, commerce, collaboration, and community converge.

Seeing those connections endure long after the event ends is one of the most rewarding parts of what we’ve built together.”
