Krizz Kaliko to Release Sixth Album, 'Go' on April 8th

The Album:

After releasing five studio albums, veteran rapper Krizz Kaliko is making a huge transition; he will release a Pop/RnB album entitled, Go, on April 8th via Strange Music. Although it’s an ambitious creative leap for Krizz, especially since he’s earned so much success as a rapper, it’s a gamble worth taking; the 16-song album is an incredibly solid body of work highlighted by strong musicianship and brutally honest story-telling. Created during a time when Krizz suffered bouts of manic depression including suicidal thoughts, the album is both powerful and relatable. Enlisting professional string players, horn players, and choir singers, Krizz describes Go as his most musically ambitious album to date.

Describing himself as an “overweight dude with mental health issues” who is a visible carrier of the skin-lightening auto-immune disorder vitiligo, Krizz admits, “I’m an unlikely pop star – that’s reserved for conventionally beautiful people but there’s something about me that people gravitate towards. My music overshadows my appearance and my fans love me for the battles I’ve been through and many have told me my music has prevented them from committing suicide. I named my first RnB album Go to propel me out of the funk I’ve been in for the past year. I’ve had to press on through so much crap in my life that the concept of moving forward – to go – has been a mantra that has saved me from killing myself. I also named it Go because we took it there, musically; we went the distance.”

Krizz has made a point to do things a little bit different with each album release, to push himself a little bit harder. Although he’s incorporated elements of rock, country, EDM, reggae, and soul into previous projects, this pop RnB album feels closer to home for Krizz. Says Krizz, “I grew up singing in the church here in Kansas City and singing has always been a strong part of who I am – I’ve just never been able to put it on full display until now.” With influences ranging from old soul, rock n’ roll, funk vocals, and drum patterns derived from Michael Jackson songs, and vocal stylings that mirror the energy level of Prince, Bruno Mars, and Maroon 5, Go reflects Krizz’ eclectic love affair with music.

Today, he is releasing “Stop the World,” premiered by Billboard, a somber record that chronicles his battles with suicidal thoughts. The song is available as an instant gratis track with pre-purchase the entire album. Krizz Kaliko will announce the tracklist for Go during a Facebook livestream at 3:45pm EST.
