Today, hip-hop history comes full circle with the release of
“U Ain’t Gotta Chance” a never-before-heard collaboration between Big L and Nas, available now on all streaming platforms.
A LEGACY REBORN
In 1999, days before finalizing his deal with Roc-A-Fella Records, Big L was tragically killed at just 24 years old.
Known for his razor-sharp wit, intricate punchlines, and vivid street storytelling, he was already being hailed as one of hip-hop’s most promising lyricists.
His classic debut, Lifestyles ov da Poor & Dangerous (1995), introduced timeless records like “Put It On” “Da Graveyard” and “M.V.P.”, and featured collaborations with Cam’ron, Kid Capri, and a then-up-and-coming Jay-Z.
Following his passing, his crew D.I.T.C. and DJ Premier helped deliver The Big Picture (2000), a Gold-Certified masterpiece that included collaborations with 2Pac, Fat Joe, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, and more solidifying Big L’s legend.
THE KING RETURNS
Now, nearly 25 years later, Harlem’s Finest: Return Of The King delivers Big L’s final and definitive album executive produced by The Estate of Lamont “Big L” Coleman and associate produced by Mike “Heron” Herard and Royce 5’9”. The project features appearances from Nas and Jay-Z, with additional features and producers to be announced. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Nas reflected on Big L’s enduring impact:
“Big L was always ahead of his time… It’s a blessing to have this celebration of him. When it comes to lyricists, Big L’s the standard. This album reminds the world that hip-hop isn’t about hype — it’s about art. |
