The league offered a new style of basketball in an era that was changing the way we see basketball in the world today. With innovative ideas like a three point shot and dunk contest, the ABA was creating excitement in the form of creativity and entertainment. If you remember Julius Erving (aka Dr. J) flying through the air, hands pressed on a red, white and blue ball then you definitely remember the ABA. Notable ABA players to move to the NBA when the leagues merged include George Gervin, Artis Gilmore, Dan Issel, Moses Malone, and David Thompson. The current version of the ABA started in 2000 and is made up of over 100 teams in the USA, Canada, and Japan.
